The Padres capped a thrilling come from behind victory on Wednesday night on Jackson Merrill's 2-strike, 2-out, 2-run double down the left field line to beat the Mariners 7-6. The Padres' bats were silent for most of the night, and Randy Vasquez wasn't his sharpest, issuing 4 walks and allowing 4 earned runs in 4 innings. The Mariners built a 6-0 lead through 5 innings, but the Padres chipped away, beginning with Xander Bogaerts' 2-run homer in the 6th inning, the 200th of his career. Seattle brought in All Star closer Andres Munoz to pitch the bottom of the 9th with a 4-run lead. The Padres worked the bases loaded with one out down 6-2, and Craig Stammen decided to use Fernando Tatis Jr. as a pinch-hitter after initially giving him the night off. Tatis Jr. hit a sac-fly to right field, bringing the score to 6-3, but also registering the second out of the inning. Luis Campusano and Ramon Laureano each followed with RBI-singles, setting the stage for Jackson Merrill. With two outs and runners on first and second base, trailing by just a run, the Mariners brought in lefty Jose Ferrer to face Merrill, who lined a double down the left field line with 2 strikes and 2 outs, bringing home both Campusano and Laureano to win the game and extend the team's winning streak to 7 games. The Padres will go for a sweep of the Mariners on Thursday.
