The Padres dropped Wednesday's rubber match against the Reds 7-3, in turn losing the series two games to one and ending their road trip with a 1-5 record. The Padres dropped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a 2-run home run from Ty France and an RBI-single from Fernando Tatis Jr. But Casey Mize wasn't able to protect the lead, as he gave up a game-tying 3-run homer to Juan Brito in the bottom of the 2nd inning followed by a go-ahead solo home run to Hector Rodriguez three batters later. Wandy Peralta ran into trouble in the 6th inning, loading the bases with just one out while trailing by a run. Matt McLain drove in a run on a deep sac-fly to put the Reds on top 5-3, but the Padres escaped the jam without further damage. JJ Bleday blasted a 2-run homer off of Jhony Brito in the 7th inning, which effectively put an end to the game. Meanwhile, Ethan Salas made his highly-anticipated MLB debut, and went 0-4 with two strikeouts. The Padres now return home 6 games above .500 for a homestand against the Yankees and the Nationals.
