Wednesday's series finale between the Padres and Orioles did not go well for the home team, as they found themselves in an early 7-0 hole after Nestor Cortes allowed 6 runs through 2.1 innings. Baltimore did their damage via the long ball, hitting four home runs off the Padres' starter. The Padres did their best to climb back into the game, as they scored four runs in the 6th inning, and brought they tying run to the plate in the form of Jose Iglesias with the bases loaded, no outs and the Friars trailing 7-3. Iglesias would ground into a double play, plating Ramon Laureano, but surrendering two crucial outs. Elias Diaz then struck out to end the Padres' best threat of the day. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo homer in the 7th inning to make it a 7-5 deficit, but that would be as close as the Padres got, as they were unable to overcome a 7-run deficit. The sweep dropped their record to 76-64, and the Padres will have a much needed day off on Thursday prior to a weekend series at Coors Field against the Rockies.
