All good things must come to an end, as the Padres' 6-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday night against the Cardinals. It looked like the Padres may extend that streak, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first 3 innings. Newly acquired left fielder Ramon Laureano's first hit as a Padre was an RBI-triple in the 2nd inning to put the Padres up 2-0, and Jackson Merrill blasted a solo homer to dead center in the 3rd to put the Padres up 4-0. But Randy Vasquez, who had battled traffic through the first three scoreless innings, yielded 4 runs in the 4th inning, including a 3-run blast by Pedro Pages. Jeremiah Estrada yielded 2 runs in relief in the 5th inning, and the Padres weren't able to score again until the bottom of the 9th when they were already trailing by 4 runs. Dylan Cease will aim to start a new winning streak for the Padres in Sunday's rubber match.
