The Padres closed out the unofficial first half of the season with a 6-2 win over the Mets, and winning 5 of their final 6 games. Manny Machado clobbered a 3-run homer off Max Scherzer in the 1st inning to give the Padres a nice early cushion. Machado took Scherzer deep again in the 5th, this time a 2-run blast. Trent Grisham put the Padres up 6-0 with an RBI-single in the 6th inning. The Mets got on the board in the 8th thanks to a 2-run double from Mark Canha, but the Padres were able to get out of a jam with an inning-ending double play on a lineout to Xander Bogaerts, their 4th double play of the game. The Padres enter the All-Star break with a record of 43-47.
