The Padres' 2026 season came to an end on Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to the Brewers in Game 4 of the NLDS. Garrett Mitchell's RBI-single put the Brewers on the scoreboard first in the top of the 3rd inning. But Fernando Tatis Jr. electrified the crowd by hitting the furthest postseason home run ever by a Padre at Petco Park in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game back up. After 3 innings, Craig Stammen was very aggressive with his bullpen, and brought in Robbie Ray to face the Brewers' left-handed lane of hitters. Ray pitched into the 5th inning and was charged with a run, as the Brewers took a 2-1 lead on Jackson Chourio's RBI-single. Milwaukee added an insurance run in the 6th, building a 3-1 lead that would ultimately be the final score. The Padres' exhausted pitching staff pitched fairly well, but ultimately, the Padres only had three hits on the night, and were unable to mount a come back. They came extremely close though in the 8th inning, when Manny Machado hit what appeared to be a 2-run game-tying home run to center field, that Garrett Mitchell reached over the wall and caught. That would ultimately be the Padres' best and final chance to tie the game and extend their season. The Padres now head into the offseason with several key pending free agents with the league's collective bargaining agreement set to expire as well.
