The Padres won a pivotal Game 2 in LA against the Dodgers to even up the series at one game apiece. Manny Machado gave the Padres an early lead with his solo home run in the first inning. Freddie Freeman quickly erased the lead with a solo homer of his own in the bottom half of the frame. Max Muncy hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second after what should have been a called strike 3 that the umpire missed, giving LA a 2-1 lead. The Padres rallied back however, adding two runs in the 3rd inning, thanks to an RBI-double by Machado and an RBI-groundout by Jake Cronenworth, putting the Padres back on top 3-2. But that lead wouldn't last long, as Trea Turner would tie the game on the Dodgers' third homer of the night, a solo shot in the 3rd.

That would be all the scoring until the 6th inning, when Jurickson Profar put the Padres back on top with an RBI-single to right field. In the bottom half of the inning, Yu Darvish gave up back-to-back singles to begin the inning, and Bob Melvin elected to bring in Robert Suarez, who struck out Justin Turner and then induced an inning-ending double play from Gavin Lux. Suarez came back out to pitch the 7th inning, and with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, got Trea Turner to ground out to third for the second out of the inning. After intentionally walking Freddie Freeman to load the bases, Suarez got Will Smith to line out to center to escape the jam without allowing a run. Jake Cronenworth's moonshot in the top of the 8th gave the Padres the insurance run they were looking for, as they held on to win 5-3. The Padres now return to San Diego for Game 3 on Friday with the series tied at 1.
