Rich Hill made his Padres debut on Sunday, but struggled against the Dodgers' offense, giving up 6 earned runs and lasting just 3 innings. The Padres had a couple of controversial calls go against them after being reviewed by instant replay as well, which didn't make things any easier. The Friars got solo home runs from Gary Sanchez and Jake Cronenworth, but went 0-5 with runners in scoring position, and trailed the entire game. Pedro Avila's relief appearance was the highlight of the day for the Padres, as he was able to provide some length and save the rest of the bullpen after Hill lasted just 3 innings. Avila struck out 7 and allowed just 1 run over 4.2 innings pitched, but the Padres just weren't able to climb back into the game.
