Monday's Padres-Mets game featured a matchup between two future Hall of Fame pitchers in Yu Darvish and Max Scherzer. The matchup didn't disappoint, with the Mets leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. Darvish had allowed a 2-run double to the reigning NL batting champ Jeff McNeil in the 3rd inning, but had otherwise shutdown the Mets.
After throwing just over 90 pitches through 6 innings, Darvish returned to pitch the 7th inning. After giving up a leadoff double to Mark Canha, Luis Guillorme laid down a picture-perfect bunt, that looked like it would go foul, but somehow stayed fair, giving the Mets runners at the corners with no outs. Eduardo Escobar drove in Canha with a sac-fly after that. Tomas Nido then reached on an infield single, and that would be the end of the night for Darvish. After getting Brandon Nimmo out on a fielder's choice, Tim Hill gave up a two-run double to Francisco Lindor, breaking the game wide open, as the Mets took and held on to a 5-0 lead. Tuesday's game will feature a pitching matchup between Ryan Weathers and David Peterson.
