The Padres suffered a tough loss to the Dodgers on Thursday night, which ended their hopes of winning the NL West. Luis Arraez broke up a scoreless game in the 5th inning with a groundout to first base that David Peralta scored on. Xander Bogaerts drove in Jurickson Profar with a sac-fly in the 6th inning. Joe Musgrove cruised through six scoreless innings, and was brought back out for the 7th inning with a low pitch count, but ran into trouble. After issuing a leadoff walk to Max Muncy, Will Smith hit a game-tying two-run home run off of Musgrove. Tanner Scott then entered the game, and things went downhill from there. Kike Hernandez hit a single and Andy Pages reached first base on catcher's interference. Shohei Ohtani hit a single to right field and Hernandez came around to score on a throwing error from Fernando Tatis Jr., which also allowed Pages and Ohtani to advance an extra base. Then Mookie Betts drove Pages and Ohtani in with a single to right field, and the Padres 2-0 lead entering the inning turned into a 5-2 deficit. Pages added a 2-run homer in the 8th, and the Dodgers once again clinched the NL West. The Padres head to Arizona for the final series of the regular season with their sights set on securing home field advantage in the Wild Card round.
