The Padres had an opportunity to sweep the Marlins with a win on Wednesday afternoon, but weren't able to hold on to multiple leads during the game. The Padres jumped all over Sandy Alcantara, scoring 6 runs in 4 innings off the Marlins' right-hander, who failed to record a single strikeout. Kyle Hart was recalled to make a spot start, and after allowing a solo home run to Jesus Sanchez and an RBI-single to Augustin Ramirez in the 5th inning to make it 6-3, he allowed two more baserunners before being lifted for rookie David Morgan, who gave up a game-tying three-run homer.
The Marlins scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning on a wild pitch by Jason Adam to go up 7-6. Gavin Sheets gave the Padres the lead right back when he blasted a 2-run moon shot in the bottom of the 7th, seemingly giving the Padres the momentum right back. Adam returned to pitch the 8th, and hit Connor Norby in the head with a pitch to begin the inning. After Manny Machado's fielding error allowed a second baserunner, Wandy Peralta entered the game, and allowed three runs to give the Marlins the lead back again, 10-8, which was a lead the Marlins wouldn't relinquish. The Padres will have the day off on Thursday before welcoming the Pirates to town on Friday.
