The Padres dropped Saturday's game to the Mets 7-1, as Mets starter David Peterson proved to be too much for the Padres' offense, allowing just one run over 7.1 innings pitched. Michael King got into trouble in the 1st inning, issuing 3 bases on balls and giving up an RBI-double to Pete Alonso, but would escape with just one run allowed. After cruising through the 2nd and 3rd innings, the 4th inning went awry on a 2-out error by Manny Machado that would have ended the inning. Instead, the inning was extended and Francisco Lindo hit a grand slam to extend New York's lead to 5-0. The four runs would be unearned. The long ball was the downfall of the Padres, as Lindor hit two and Harrison Bader hit a pinch-hit home run in the 8th, as the Mets won a drama-free game over the Padres. The Padres will go for a series split on Sunday with Martin Perez drawing the start.
