The Padres lost to the Rockies 5-3 in a game that began as a pitcher's duel. Mike Clevinger and Austin Gomber had each allowed a lone run heading into the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 6th, Charlie Blackmon hit a 3-run homer off of Clevinger to break the game wide open. The Padres mounted a rally down 5-1 in the 8th inning, but the Padres baserunning woes ran them out of potentially tying the game. Trailing by 4, Luke Voit was thrown out at third base tagging up on a pop fly to left field. Nomar Mazara hit an RBI-single right after that, which would have driven in Voit had he not tried to advance. Later in the inning, after an RBI-single of his own, Esteury Ruiz was thrown out trying to steal third base with two outs, despite already being in scoring position. Despite scoring two runs in the inning, the Padres were thrown out at third base twice, muting what could have been an even bigger inning. Daniel Bard closed things out in the 9th inning for the Rockies, as the Padres woes at Coors Field continued on Tuesday night.
