The Padres won for the second consecutive night in St. Louis, defeating the Cardinals 7-5. Dylan Cease did not have his best stuff, as he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks, and wasn't able to make it out of the 5th inning. But the Padres put up a 4 spot in the top of the 2nd inning after falling behind 2-0, highlighted by Manny Machado's 22nd of the year. After Lars Nootbar's RBI-single in the 5th, Paul Goldschmidt tacked on a 2-run homer to give the Cardinals a 5-4 lead. But Mike Shildt's Grit Squad did what they've done all year, and came from behind late in the game. Jurickson Profar's sac-fly in the 7th tied the game, Jake Cronenworth put the Padres on top with an RBI-single, and Mason McCoy scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. Jeremiah Estrada, Jason Adam and Tanner Scott would each pitch a scoreless inning to protect the lead and preserve the victory. Joe Musgrove will start for the Padres on Wednesday.
