UPDATE: The Padres have made the trade official:
According to multiple media reports, the Padres have traded for Juan Soto and Josh Bell from the Nationals. The deal has not been made official yet, and there are many moving parts in terms of players involved. The reported deal includes MacKenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood and Jarlin Susana.
Soto is under contractual control through the end of the 2024 season and Bell will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
In a separate trade, the Padres reportedly traded Eric Hosmer to the Boston Red Sox after he exercised his no-trade clause in the Washington deal.
