The Padres lost a heartbreaker 4-2 to the Reds on Tuesday night. Michael King made his return from the IL, and pitched very well, allowing just two solo home runs in 5 innings of work. After falling behind 2-0, the Padres tied the game in the 5th thanks to an RBI-triple from Jackson Merrill and an RBI-sacrifice fly from Jake Cronenworth. Unfortunately, the Padres were unable to capitalize on any other scoring opportunities, going 0-6 with RISP. Robert Suarez was called upon in the 9th inning with the score tied at 2, tasked with giving the Padres an opportunity to walk it off in the bottom of the 9th. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Suarez walked Gavin Lux, and then gave up a go-ahead two-run homer to Tyler Stephenson, which proved to be the difference in the game. The Padres will send Nick Pivetta to the mound to start Wednesday's rubber match.
