San Diego State saved its best for last, sending Brady Hoke into retirement on the heels of the team's best win of the season, a 33-18 victory over Fresno State, who entered the matchup with a record of 8-3. Jalen Mayden threw for 189 yards and a touchdown, while adding 96 yards and another score on the ground, without turning the ball over. The Aztecs entered the 4th quarter leading 23-10, and extended that lead with a 33-yard field goal from Jack Browning. But the Bulldogs authored a 10-play 75-yard touchdown drive and added the 2-point conversion to make it a one-possession game. But the Aztecs would respond with a long scoring drive of their own, with Mayden leading a 14-play 78-yard drive that ate 7:06 off the clock, and ended with Mayden finding Leo Kemp for a 5-yard touchdown that would seal the game. The Aztecs ended the 2023 season with a 4-8 record (2-6) and will now begin their search for a new head coach to replace Brady Hoke.
