San Diego State lost to Utah State 73-62 in the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship, missing out on an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. As a result, it was revealed on Selection Sunday that the Aztecs were left out of the NCAA Tournament altogether for the first time since 2019, concluding a disappointing season for the Aztecs. SDSU concluded the 2025-26 season with a record of 22-11, but early losses to unranked Troy and Grand Canyon, as well as lopsided losses to ranked opponents Michigan and Arizona ultimately doomed the Aztecs.
After Sunday's bracket reveal, head coach Brian Dutcher told the San Diego Union-Tribune that the Aztecs would not accept an invitation to any other postseason tournament.
"I'm disappointed for our players and our great fans that we weren't selected to compete in this year's NCAA Tournament," Dutcher said. "There are only 68 spots available and unfortunately, we didn't get one of them. Physically, our team is very banged up at this point. If we had received a bid for the NCAA Tournament, we would have competed. However, with where we are today physically, I don't feel that playing in another postseason event would benefit us."
