The Aztecs received a pleasant surprise on Tuesday when 7-foot center Magoon Gwath changed his mind and informed coaches that he'd be returning to San Diego State. Prior to the NCAA Tournament, Gwath told reporters that he had his eyes on the NBA when asked about his plans for next season. He then entered the transfer portal on Monday when it officially opened. But Gwath reportedly had second thoughts about leaving the program, and decided to stick with the program that discovered him in Arizona. Gwath averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks last season, and earned both Mountain West Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Gwath's return brightens the 2025 outlook for the Aztecs.
