Less than a week after news of a civil lawsuit being filed against former SDSU punter Matt Araiza and other members of the Aztec football team alleged that multiple players had gang-raped a 17-year old high school girl leading to the Bills releasing Araiza, SDSU Athletic Director JD Wicker and head coach Brady Hoke issued a statement on the university's handling of the incident. Both Wicker and Hoke read prepared statements and opted not to answer questions from the media, and ended the session early after repeated questions about the incident.
