Tiger Woods, who a week ago admitted doctors considered amputating his leg after his February car accident, is back. Woods will compete at next weekend’s PNC Championship, a father/son tournament in Orlando, the PGA legend announced Wednesday. Woods and his 12-year-old son Charlie placed seventh at last year’s event, finishing five shots back of winners Justin and Mike Thomas. To be eligible, one has to have already won a Players Championship or one of golf’s four major tournaments (Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship).

Addressing the media for the first time since his accident, which hospitalized the 45-year-old for three weeks and left him bedridden for several more, Woods had expressed optimism about eventually returning to the PGA Tour, though never on a full-time basis again. “I don’t foresee this leg ever being what it used to be,” said Woods during his appearance at the Hero World Challenge, a tournament he’s hosted in the Bahamas for several years. “To see some of my shots fall out of the sky a lot shorter than they used to is a little eye-opening, but at least I'm able to do it again. That's something that for a while there it didn't look like I was going to.”

Other pairings include John and “Little John” Daly, Gary and Jordan Player, Lee and Daniel Trevino and last year’s runners-up Vijay and Qass Singh. Woods is mostly competing for fun, wanting to give his son the experience of playing against some of the world’s best golfers, though the four-day event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, including two days of competition (Pro-Am rounds will be played Thursday and Friday), should give us a good idea how far along the GOAT is in his recovery.
