Bethel Encourages People To “Give 5” in this Unusual Year

Chattanooga, TN — At a time of year when local charities typically urge donors to “Think BIG,” Bethel Bible Village is taking a different approach for Giving Tuesday this year.“2020 has been tough for everyone,” notes Rosalind Connor, Bethel President and CEO. “From parents and children struggling with virtual school to the many businesses that have been hurt due to the pandemic.”“Many people can’t afford to give big this year, but we have seen the power in many small gifts coming together to make a difference,” Rosalind adds. That’s why Bethel’s Giving Tuesday campaign asks individuals and businesses to Give 5 To Change Kids’ Lives. The campaign video features some of the #2020 moments we’ve all experienced, from trying to sip coffee through a mask, “air hugs” for friends from a safe distance, and the “air high fives” that feel pretty lonely nowadays. So far, it’s been very contagious.“Depending on the kind of year they are having, we’ve had people donate $5, $50 and even larger multiples of $5!” Rosalind says with gratitude. “Those gifts are adding up. In fact, we’ve been able to unlock a $20,000 5 times matching grant from a generous donor.”Bethel, which receives no government funding, is hoping to raise a total of $30,000 by midnight on December 1. The funds will help kids overcoming crisis in very practical ways, including counseling, housing, meals, and an education at Bethel’s trauma-informed school, Bethel Christian Academy.“We are also blessed by area businesses who are sharing the word about Bethel today for Giving Tuesday.” Rosalind adds. Those businesses are:•    Access Family Pharmacy•    Front Runner Athletics•    Five Guys Burgers & Fries•    Fiamma Pizza Co.•    Mimi’s Deli•    Scenic Community Credit Union•    Southern Champion Tray“In past Giving Tuesdays, we’ve slimed the Mayor and had a pig kissing contest starring Lori Mitchell from WRCB-TV and Styckman from US-101, but social distancing rules out anything like that this year,” Rosalind notes. “However, we did include cameos of those great Heroes for Hope in our campaign video this year. We can’t pass up a chance to give them Hogs and Kisses from our kids.”  
