Well, maybe they can turn it into a swimming pool?

A massive and still widening sinkhole appeared out of nowhere on Saturday in the small farming town of Juan C. Bonilla, in the state of Puebla, Mexico, reported CNN.

The hole, explained Puebla's environmental secretary Beatriz Manrique, was at first about 15-feet wide, but in 24 hours crumbled to more than 300 feet in diameter and 50-feet deep, nearly swallowing up a family home in the process.

According to the state civil protection authority and the National Water Commission (Conagua), the sinkhole has filled up with natural water.

At a press conference on Monday, state governor, Miguel Barbosa Huerta, said the family was safely evacuated, and begged locals to stay away from the expanding crevice that has been cordoned off by a security perimeter. But of course gawkers can’t help but continue to creep close to the cratering curiosity.

Video shot on Monday shows pieces of Earth just continually crumbling down like something out of a disaster movie. The house is seen teetering on the edge of the sinkhole.

An investigation is under way to better understand the cause behind what happened.

"We think that it might be a combination of two factors: the softening of the field, the whole area was being cultivated, as well as the extraction of groundwater, which softens the subsoil," Manrique told CNN.
