Several hours after Jim Carrey announced that he would no longer play President-elect Joe Biden on "Saturday Night Live," the show introduced its new Biden.
Alex Moffat, an "SNL" cast member, took over Biden's role on Saturday night's episode.
However, at the show's start, Beck Bennett's Vice President Mike Pence received the COVID-19 vaccine for the show's cold open. "Saturday Night Live" also featured Maya Rudolph's Kamala Harris and Moffat as Biden.
"Hello, thank you. I'm sure all Americans are excited to see me, the guy who let Covid spread everywhere, get one of the first vaccines," Bennett's Pence said.
"Before we begin, I just want to reassure the American people that this vaccine is safe and harmless. That's why President Trump refuses to take it or talk about it. Instead, he sent me to be his [human shield]," Bennett said as Biden.
After receiving the vaccine, Rudolph's vice president-elect made a surprise appearance at the press conference. "How'd you even get into the White House," the vice president asked. "I won more votes," the vice president-elect responded. After Bennett's Pence discusses some Election Day conspiracy theories, Rudolph's Harris quickly shuts him down.
She added, "I have good news, Mike. Even though you lost, you could still come back from this stronger than ever like the current president-elect, my man Joe Biden."
That's when Moffat made his first appearance as Joe Biden on "Saturday Night Live."
"I just want to let the American people know one thing: You're going to have a real leader again. You're going to have the most diverse cabinet in the history of American politics," Moffat's Biden said.
"And I will make sure that Joe never specifies what he means by diverse. That is my Christmas present to you America," Rudolph's Harris said before she and Biden got their vaccines.
Just hours ahead of the show's final episode of the year, Jim Carrey announced his departure on Twitter.
"Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President... comedy's highest call of duty," Carrey, 58, tweeted. "I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that s***. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!”
"Thank you to Jim Carrey for showing up when it mattered," the show responded to Carrey.
