Van Morrison is balking at advice from scientists and health care officials alike, denouncing socially distant concerts for their “pseudo-science” beliefs.

The singer penned an open letter on his website, explaining to fans that socially distant concerts should not be accepted as the societal norm moving forward. “This is not a sign of compliance or acceptance of the current state of affairs, this is to get my band up and running and out of the doldrums. This is also not the answer going forward,” Morrison writes. “We need to be playing to full capacity audiences going forward.”
This comes after Van announced two socially distant London gigs in September at Camden’s Electric Ballroom. Concertgoers were allowed to purchase 10 tickets per two “bubbles.” Despite his apparent capitulation to safety restrictions, the veteran artist seems determined to mobilize other artists and fight to bring venues back to full capacity.
“I call on my fellow singers, musicians, writers, producers, promoters and others in the industry to fight with me on this… Come forward, stand up, fight the pseudo-science and speak up.”
Health officials are still busy trying to find safe alternatives for concertgoers. The Guardian reports German scientists are planning to equip 4,000 fans with tracking tools and bottles of fluorescent disinfectant to get a better understanding of how COVID-19 could be prevented from spreading at large indoor concerts.
It was slow going for Morrison even before the COVID-19 outbreak. Back in October, the artist released a new album, Three Chords and The Truth, featuring 14 original compositions.
Three Chords And The Truth is truly something wonderful. Fourteen new original compositions effortlessly encapsulate the Van Morrison sound and showcase his talents as one of our generation’s most celebrated songwriters. Out Now. https://t.co/1asfUqmVid pic.twitter.com/Hm4JKFwYbX
