SAGINAW (WWJ/AP) Meet the teen—not the grandma—who literally “got run over by a deer” (*not a reindeer).
Madison Sylvester of Saginaw, an 8th grader, was running a two-mile race at Delta College when a deer crashed into her and knocked her down during the last half-mile a week ago Saturday.
“I saw the deer out of the corner of my eye,” Sylvester, 13, told the Associated Press. “I thought it might go behind me. When it hit me, I knew what happened. It was scary.”
The doe broke Sylvester's collarbone. However, she was otherwise uninjured and is expected to make a full recovery.
Sylvester's sister was also running the race. While Sylvester yearned to finish on her own, her father picked her up and carried her the rest of the way.
The deer is okay.
