Taking the 2023 BET Awards stage in a captivating, fringed, and shimmery dress, "Give it up for Tina Turner," LaBelle said at the start of her performance before jumping into a rendition of Turner's classic hit, "The Best." But things took a slight turn when she made the crowd aware that she didn't actually know the words, and couldn't see the teleprompter.
A BET representative did clarify that, because of "the crowd’s enthusiasm, the teleprompter was obstructed, obscuring Ms. LaBelle’s view of the lyrics.”
"Whatever, I can't see the words, I don't know," she sang before blurting out "I'm trying y'all!" She quickly began to improvise until she found her footing and made it back to the chorus.
Watch the full mishap above, as it made for a pretty funny viral moment of the night.
