The notion of "comparing yourself to the Joneses" has persisted throughout history. Humans can't help but compare their own situations to their peers and unfortunately, it can actually cause more harm than you think.
A recent survey found that two out of three Americans will avoid social gatherings and events because they are embarrassed of their financial situations.
2,000 adults were survey by Study Finds, and they found that 66% of the respondents have steered clear of birthday parties (33%), weddings (32%), happy hours (31%), and networking events (31%), because they're embarrassed with where they are in life financially.
61% of folks felt like they weren't earning enough money to live their life to the fullest, and those with annual household incomes under $30,000 were the most likely to say so at 78%.
The survey also found that on average, people feel they need to earn a minimum salary of $86,000 to never feel stressed about their finances again.
However, regardless how much money one earns, 57% of people say their finances will always make them feel stressed, an turning to others for help may not always be an option, as 61% are uncomfortable even just talking about their financial stress with others.
