A group of parents in Montreal are suing their kids' art teacher after it was found they were selling their personal artwork on his own personal website!

Mario Perron, a teacher at Westwood Junior High School in Saint-Lazare, Que., has been named in the lawsuit along with the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) for alleged copyright infringement.

The group of parents is seeking $1.5 million in damages!

According to the CBC, earlier this year, Perron assigned his students a project called "Creepy Portrait," where students drew a portrait of a classmate or themselves inspired by the style of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Some students would eventually discover that Perron made some of the portraits available for purchase on his website and stamped some of them on things like coffee mugs, T-shirts and cellphone cases.  Some items listed for as much as $174.

In addition to the $1.5 million, the parents are seeking a written apology from Perron, the removal of the students' artwork from all websites, and a report of any sales made in connection with the plagiarized works.
