Austin Butler was one of the 16 first-time nominees announced yesterday morning for the upcoming 95thAcademy Awards, and upon receiving his nomination, decided to pay tribute to a recently departed friend.
Butler called into Today with Hoda and Jenna to discuss how the moment being nominated was "bittersweet" for him, as he wish Lisa Marie Presley was there to celebrate with him.
Butler told the hosts, "It's sort of a bittersweet moment right now because I think of how much I wish she was here right now to get to celebrate with me. It's the same thing I feel with Elvis; I wish that they could see these moments, you know?
"It's just sort of strange to celebrate at a time of such deep grief. But I sort of think of it as a way to honor her. This is for her.
Lisa Marie died suddenly January 12th, just days after she and her mother Priscilla watched Butler win the Golden Globe for his work in Elvis.
