Assembly members Evan Low of the Bay Area and Cristina Garcia of Los Angeles just introduced a new bill into the California legislature that would ban stores from labeling sections of the store specifically for "boys" and "girls."
According to TMZ, bill AB 1084 would require all department stores with at least 500 employees, like Target, Walmart, or Kohls, can no longer differentiate sections of toys and clothing as specifically for "boys" and "girls." Any websites these stores operate will have to update their categories to read "kids," "unisex" or "gender-neutral."
Reportedly, the bill was created to support "fairness and equity for kids," who "might not like what a gendered section has to offer and want something from the other side."
