A new report from the Food and Drug Administration has led to an alarming correlation between breast implants and associated diagnoses of skin cancer.

This past Wednesday, the FDA revealed they are aware of 19 cases of potentially deadly squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer, and "various lymphomas" in "the capsule around the breast implant" and in scar tissue.

While the development of SCC and other lymphomas is possible, but considered "rare," the agency advised that patients who have or desire implants should be informed of the risk.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ashley Amalfi, who practices at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery in Rochester, New York, previously told the New York Post that there's been an uptick in Gen Z patients.

According to Dr. Amalfi, in addition to Botox or filler, breast augmentations and lifts are among the most sought-after procedures.
