Not only is Queen's Brian May one of the greatest guitarist of all time, but he also holds a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College in London.

He even declined an invitation to work at the famed Jodrell Bank Observatory in England but declined because due to his commitment to his band Smile, the predecessor to Queen.

Still, astrophysics is still near and dear to May's heart, and he's not putting that PhD to waste, either!  May recently assisted NASA in retrieving its first-ever asteroid sample from space!

According to PEOPLE, May helped mission leader Dante Lauretta to identify where to collect samples from the asteroid Bennu by creating stereoscopic images from the spacecraft OSIRIS-Rex.

The steroid sample will now be sent to Houston's Johnson Space Center for further study.
