You know the feeling...you see someone you have a crush on, and your hearts gets all a flutter, and you get kind of nervous...
There is a scientific reason why we get butterflies in our stomachs when we're around someone we fancy, and this sensation even happens when you're in a relationship!
Apparently, the sensation we feel when we get butterflies in our stomachs is very similar to our bodies' "flight-or-fight" response!
According to YourTango, "this is an evolutionary response the human body has developed over time which prepares it to either fight or run in the face of a threat. Your sympathetic nervous system gets to work releasing adrenaline and cortisol, increasing your heart rate, quickening your breathing, and maybe even making you sweat."
Now we know being attracted to someone isn't exactly life-threatening, so the whole fight-or-flight response might seem like your body's doing too much, but that doesn't mean catching yourself falling for someone isn't stressful!
