There could be a day, when we see the great beasts of history long gone due to the extinction brought back from the dead, that is if the CIA has anything to say about it.

The American intelligence agency has recently pledged money to a Texas-based tech company called Colossal Biosciences, whose website states the company's goal is to "see the woolly mammoth thunder upon the tundra once again."

According to LiveScience, Colossal has also stated its interest in resurrecting the thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger, a wolf-like marsupial that went extinct in the 1930s, along with the dodo bird.

And just for clarification, it's more about the technology itself than bringing back all of these extinct animals.

In a blog post from In-Q-Tel, a venture capital investment firm in which the CIA funds, senior officials wrote, "Strategically, it's less about the mammoths and more about the capability."
