Aren't we all still in an uproar that streetlights have cameras that can issue tickets to cars that run red lights, even if no police are present?
If you're upset by that use of technology, we're sure this new implementation will surely rub you the wrong way.
City buses across the country are being equipped with A.I. cameras that can detect cars that are illegally parked on the street as they are driving by. If they capture one of these vehicles, they will automatically issue a ticket to the vehicle.
Buses in New York started getting these cameras last year, with buses in Washington D.C. and Santa Monica, California to soon follow.
According to KTLA, these buses initially will only ticket vehicles who only illegally park or drive in bus lanes, but that doesn't mean they could soon be used to issue citations for other violations as well.
Cities are looking to earn quite the revenue from these A.I. tickets as well.
Despite not collecting fines during an initial test run in Santa Monica, cameras spotted 511 violations in 45 days, which would have brought in $150,000 in revenue for the city.
