A country club in Virginia has issued an apology after receiving backlash for their menu meant to pay tribute to the lives lost on 9/11, but had many critics calling it a "stunningly insensitive commemoration."

Some of the items the Clubhouse at Aquia Harbour were offering included "First Responder Flatbread," "9/11 Oysters," and "the 2977 Chowder" amongst others.

According to WJLA, Stafford, VA is filled with service members and veterans, and many were left "appalled" at the restaurant's menu offerings.

Restaurant manager George White later issued an apology in a post to a community Facebook page Wednesday where he wrote: "My intention was to bring attention to that horrific day 21 years ago, to honor those who lost so much as well as those who gave everything that day. We will have a new theme tomorrow."
