A couple of years ago, John Arlinghaus and Carolina Ramirez visited Dallas Animal Services with no intention of bringing a new fur-baby home with them.

Ramirez told NBC DFW while thinking of that day "Famous last words, we're not getting a dog today, but we will go and see."

Well on that fateful day when the couple met Gunner, a three-year-old Dachsador, a mix between a dachshund and a Labrador, and they immediately fell in love. Arlinghaus said "We showed up and we saw Gunner and we immediately fell in love. He was shy and reserved. He was hiding in the back of the crate and not interacting with anybody."

It was a match made in heaven, and Arlinghaus and Ramirez have no regrets about their spontaneous decision. "He [Gunner] really rescued us too. We just love having him around," Arlinghaus said.

Clear the Shelters runs though September 19th. You can get more information about the program, or find a shelter near you, HERE!
