If you're preparing to propose to your sweetheart any time soon, you might want to look at getting them a watch rather than a ring, because apparently, more and more couples are opting for the engagement watch rather than the engagement ring!
The global fashion shopping platform Lyst revealed a 42% increase in searches for 'couple,' 'engagement' and 'wedding' watches, and have predicted a rise in sales of upmarket timepieces.
According to Daily Mail, Morgan Le Caer, a content lead at Lyst, said, "This season, more couples have been forgoing traditional rings as engagement presents, instead opting for gender-neutral watches."
A lot of people believe in the usefulness a watch provides rather than a ring, and a spokesperson from Ernest Jones suggested the rise in engagement watches could also be related to the number of same-sex marriages.
They said, "Our retail colleagues have noted an uplift in people buying watches as both an engagement present and as a wedding day gift."
