Finland's Remi Lindholm may have suffered the worst injury in the history of the Olympics...and dare we say SPORTS as a whole.
The cross-country skier spent about an hour and 16 minutes traversing the 30km course at the Beijing games and at the end, needed a heat pack for a very sensitive body part. Some might say the most sensitive.
Lindholm told Finnish media at the conclusion of the race, "You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished (the men's Olympic 50km race) ... it was one of the worst competitions I've been in. It was just about battling through."
Olympic organizers were worried about the potential of frostbite, so the race was delayed an hour and shortened by 20km, per CNN. However, the thin suits and under-layers worn by Lindholm, and all the other racers, as well as plasters to cover their faces and ears, seemed to offer little protection.
Lindholm explained that even though he was able to warm up his "appendage" following the race's conclusion, "When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable," he said."
