The Dallas Zoo was placed on lockdown earlier today after a clouded leopard found its way OUT of habitat!
The zoo issues a "code blue," indicating a "non-dangerous animal that is out of its habitat."
The zoo has enlisted the help of the Dallas Police Department in locating the "non-dangerous" car Nova, who was unaccounted for when staff arrived earlier this morning.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Zoo had never housed clouded leopards before September 2021, when two sisters, Nova and Luna, made their public debut after moving from the Houston Zoo.
Though the cats only stand at only a few feet tall and are a few feet long, Sara Bjerklie, an assistant zoological manager at the zoo, told the News that the animals are as "fierce as bigger predators, with canine teeth that can grow to more than 2 inches long, and the largest canine-to-skull ratio of all cats."
She also added that of the two leopards, Nova is more "standoffish."
