Supply chain issues have reached a dire stage in North Texas: restaurants are running out of Topo Chico.

Ángel Medina, manager of Taqueria La Ventana in Oak Lawn, told Dallas News “We’re completely out of it.”

Medina says the shortages began about a month ago.  It was around this time Coca-Cola, who purchased Topo Chico in 2017, said the company was encountering supply chain issues, but did not indicate what exactly those issues were.

And because there’s a shortage of Topo Chico, one of North Texas’ most favorite drinks has also become hard to come by.

Adriana Aguirre, 45, a bartender at Mattito’s, says, “For some time now, it’s become really popular. It has high demand.  One of the most in-demand drinks is Ranch Water, which includes just tequila, lemon and Topo Chico. People really love it.

“You just can’t find it.  It’s been in short supply.”

According to Market Realist, the drink’s lack of availability this summer may be the result of a general water shortage in Nuevo León, where Arca Continental, Coca-Cola’s second-largest bottling plant in Latin America, is located.
