According to the 24th annual State of the Air report, Dallas-Fort Worth actually ranked 18th in the nation for most ozone-polluted metro area, nestled in between Chicago-Naperville, IL, and Reno-Carson City-Fernley, NV.

Jenny Narvaez, air quality manager for the North Central Texas Council of Governments, told the Dallas Morning News that the Metroplex’s level has exceeded federal standards for decades, and though verall air quality has greatly improved since the council started monitoring it in the 1990s, regulatory standards have also been raised over that same time.

Last year’s report had DFW ranked 16th in the nation for ozone pollution.  Coming in at No. 1 this year: Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA.
