Julie and Reid Robinson had no idea their career path would lead them to their latest venture.
The couple used to own both The Forum, the oldest bar in Richardson, and Brizo, but unfortunately the pandemic led them to closing Brizo permanently and selling The Forum to new owners.
They've founded a new business though, and it's the first of its kind in DFW.
Reid quit drinking alcohol due to health issues a few years ago, so the Robinsons began researching zero-proof beverages. Now, they own and operate "Beyond the Bar Bottle Shop," DFW's first non-alcoholic beverage shop.
Beyond the Bar carries 24 different alcohol-free spirits, de-alcoholized wines, canned cocktails, alcohol-free beers, leisure sodas and mixers. Their space is also outfitted with a tasting room where customers can try new beverages and socialize.
Julie Robinson told the Dallas Morning News, "It's not just about a drink," Robinson said. "It's about a sense of community and having a seat at the table. That was one of our big goals, to have a place that has a sense of community for all people whether they aren't having a drink that night, if they haven't had one in 10 years or if they are a mindful drinker."
Beyond the Bar Bottle Shop is located at 101 S. Sherman St. B, Richardson.
They're open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday by appointment only.
