Dirk Nowitzki is arguably the most beloved athlete in Dallas sports history, though he has some regrets.
In a recent interview, Dirk says he regrets playing his last two season with the Mavs, as they have prevented him from being able to fully enjoy playing with his kids now that he's retired.
Playing over 20 years in the NBA takes its toll, especially on a man of Dirk's size. He's faced serious problems with his ankle, and has already had multiple surgeries on it.
And Dirk believes that playing those last two years for the Mavs only exacerbated the issues.
In a recent interview with the German publication Der Spiegel, "My foot is really bad, there are days when I don't move well at all. I'm thinking… Have the last two years (with Dallas) really been worth it? We haven't achieved anything as a team, that's going through my head a bit."
When to retire is so hard for an athlete to determine, so we completely feel for Dirk, here. At least he had a year to nurture Luka to lead the Mavericks for another 20 years.
