We all remember that fateful night on February 1, 2004 when Janet Jackson anD Justin Timberlake took the stage for the halftime performance at Super Bowl XXVIII.
It was an event that will live in infamy.
Timberlake ripped off a piece of Jackson's wardrobe, revealing her exposed nipple for about half a second. The fallout was immediate, but Timberlake has been able to fully recover from the controversy. And Jackson has not.
Well a new documentary titled Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson claims that Jackson bore the full brunt of punishment from "Nipplegate" because she refused to apologize to CBS president Les Moonves, whereas Timberlake did.
Apparently, despite the numerous public apologies the issued, Moonves demanded private, in-person apologies from both. Timberlake relented, Jackson apparently didn't, according to Consequence.
Experts believe this was why Timberlake appeared at the Grammys later that year (which were also broadcast on CBS), even though Moonves publicily barred both of them from attending. Timberlake actually performed twice at the ceremony and won multiple awards.
Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson airs TOMORROW, November 20 at 9 p.m. Central on FX.
