Bit of a different Dr. Miles Intervention this morning as we dive into the world of sports.
Yesterday, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, and Dallas native, Clayton Kershaw was pulled just six outs away from a perfect game.
To put that achievement into context, there have been more than 220,000 games in MLB history, but there have only been 23 perfect games.
Clayton Kershaw was just two innings away from being no. 24.
Dodgers manager Dave Robert says that Kershaw was pulled early due to a strict limit the team has on pitch counts. Due to the fact that the MLB Lockout shortened Spring Training, Roberts didn't want any starting pitcher throwing more than 80 pitches.
However, the question is when you have the chance at history, especially something that has happened in only .0001% of the time in the game's history, should Roberts have let Kershaw finish the game?
If he gives up a hit the next at-bat, you can take him out then, and he doesn't pitch a whole lot more than his pitch count, and he still has the chance at history.
Or was Roberts right in trying to save Kershaw's arm? He's the most valuable asset on that pitching staff, and they are facing a very long season after all.
