Rock climber Emily Harrington just made history.
Harrington became the first woman to free-climb Yosemite National Park's El Capitan last week, and she climbed the entire 3,000-foot granite wall in less than a day!
Harrington completed the climb in 21 hours and 13 minutes, only using a rope to protect herself from falls during the ascent.
Harrington quickly climbed the first 2,600 feet before slipping a couple of times. During the second fall, she hit her head against the wall, prompting her crew to take a long break. Her boyfriend and fellow climber Adrian Ballinger said, "Blood just started pouring down her face, dripping onto me at the belay."
Harrington completed the climb around 10:45pm Wednesday evening, having started at 1:34am that morning.
She wrote on Instagram, "I never believed I could actually free climb El Cap in a day when I first set the goal for myself. It didn't seem like a realistic objective for me. I didn't have the skills, fitness, or risk profile to move so quickly over such a large piece of stone. But I chose it exactly for that reason."
