So it seems that North Texas is just always in a constant state of "Excessive Heat Warning" these days. It's a phrase we've all frustratingly grown all to familiar with.
Unfortunately, this news won't brighten any of y'all's moods.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram is reporting that energy companies such as TXU Energy have the ability to remotely control thermostats inside of their customers' homes, as part of their "Demand Response Program."
The company regulates thermostats remotely in times the power grid is under great stress, as it was last Wednesday. TXU says when they do take control, it's only "by a few degrees for a short time, normally less than an hour."
TXU says that tens of thousands of customers participate in the program, though it is unclear how many homes actually have had their thermostats remotely changed.
