One of the highlights of every day is the nightly dinner where the entire family gathers around the table for a meal to discuss the events of the day. However, it appears that concept is becoming a thing of the past.
Experts say that it's "ok" not to have nightly family dinners, for five specific reasons, most of which revolve around being able to focus on feeding your children first, and then taking time for mom and dad to enjoy their meals second.
According to the Huffington Post, these reasons include:
1 - It's less stressful
2 - No whining
3 - More fun for the kids
4 - Catch up with your spouse
5 - Special date night in
Medical doctor Katja Rowell further explained the stresses nightly dinners can out on mothers saying, "Our society puts far too much on mothers' shoulders, while offering little support. The pressure to do family dinner 'right' can feel defeating and can even make families less likely to eat together."
Of course, a lot of people disagree, saying that at the end of the day, the nightly family dinners are not about the food.
Author Bruce Feiler said, "It's the bonding time, that 15 minutes of conversation, that's what really matters. It's not having that bonding at the dinner table."
Journalist Louise Gleeson echoed those sentiments saying, "Family dinner is not a construct, it's a feeling."
